Dear Parents and Students,
I hope this letter finds you enjoying your summer vacation! Our staff is very busy getting the school ready for our students and we are looking forward to a very successful year at St. Michael’s. The first day of school is Monday, August 30th for grade 7s only, Tuesday, August 31st for grade 8 and 9 only and Wednesday, September 1st for EVERYONE altogether! Classes start promptly at 9:00am, we finish at 3:30.
Bussing information will be on the portal on August 26th and 27th (only those two days!) If you are unable to get onto the portal, please email Kelly Plunkett at kplunkett@wqsb.qc.ca and she will send you your bus information. All students are required to wear masks on the bus until further notice and there will be seating plans, like last year.
Our dear Lynn is on sick leave and will be returning to work on Monday, September 20th. Until then, Holly Stevenson will be answering phones and emails and your main contact for office information is Kelly at kplunkett@wqsb.qc.ca. Lynn will be okay; she is just off healing at this time. Please do not send get well emails to her email address, as Kelly and Holly will be the only two people checking that email. I promise we will let you know when she is back and those wonderful thoughts can come flooding in. I will be at the school daily, until Lynn returns. Alana Albert has stepped up to interim Principal at Queen E during this time.
I believe strongly in open communication so if you have any cares, concerns or compliments please feel free to contact me at the school or via email dpicard@wqsb.qc.ca
Covid Protocols:
– Wear masks at all times on busses, in hallways and in classrooms
– Masks do not have to be worn outside or during phys-ed class
– Students and teachers need to stay in 2m distance from each other when possible
– Staff will be wearing masks as well
– Vaccination passports will be needed when students are playing on sports teams, not for phys-ed class.
A letter will be forthcoming from the school board and there will also be more information on the protocols for symptoms and/or cases coming later in the week. So please watch your email closely.
We are reinstating the hat policy. No hats in classrooms or hallways – now that lockers are back, students have a place to store them. No worries, we will remind them. We will have a new dress code and staff will work on this the first few days back, stay tuned…
Checking your email regularly will be crucial for success again this year. We are not out of covid yet, so there are sure to be changes often. This is the easiest way to get messages out quickly to guardians and parents.
Students will move this year from classroom to classroom, lockers are back and no bubbles.
I am confident that we can all work together again, to make this a very successful year. If we successfully got through last year, this year should be manageable!
Grade 7 come back on Monday, August 30th and don’t come back until Wednesday (no school Tuesday)
Grade 8 and 9 come back on Tuesday, August 31st and do not come to school on Monday, August 30th
Grade 10, 11 and WOTP students return with EVERYONE on Wednesday, September 1st, they do not have school on Monday or Tuesday.
EVERYONE is back to school on September 1st.
Students MUST BRING their own lock for their locker. All lockers must be locked at all times. I HIGHLY recommend practicing combinations at home before school starts or buying a word lock for your lockers.
Sincerely,
Debbie Picard
Principal
